What Seattle Center Includes
Seattle Center is a 74-acre civic, arts and cultural gathering place in Seattle’s Uptown neighborhood, with more than 30 partner organizations. Its attractions range from the Space Needle and Chihuly Garden and Glass to public spaces such as the International Fountain and Artists at Play.
The grounds have a history that predates the fair that put them on the map. Civic Auditorium was built in 1927, the National Guard Armory in 1939 and Civic Field in 1948.
The Century 21 World’s Fair opened here on April 21, 1962, and closed on October 21 that year. The United States Science Pavilion reopened as Pacific Science Center the next day.
Today, the Center’s attractions include Climate Pledge Arena, the Gates Foundation Discovery Center and Seattle Center Skate Plaza, as well as the landmark buildings and gathering places. The Seattle Center Sculpture Walk is a free event featuring temporary art installations on the grounds throughout the year.
Choosing Attractions for Your Visit
Pick a few stops that suit the time you have rather than treating the campus as one attraction. The Space Needle offers two observation decks, a revolving glass floor and open-air glass benches. Chihuly Garden and Glass brings together eight galleries, a Glasshouse and a garden. Check each attraction’s own details as you decide how much time to allow.
For a lower-key stop between ticketed attractions, Artists at Play is a free, artist-created playground open to all ages. Seattle Center Skate Plaza is a public street-style skateboarding plaza designed with space for beginners to practice. The International Fountain is another outdoor gathering spot; its music runs from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. when the fountain is operating.
If you’re planning a fuller Seattle day, you can pair the Center with ideas from this one-day Seattle itinerary. For more stops around the grounds, check the Center’s current attraction and event listings before setting your route.
Tickets, Hours, and Special Events
The Seattle Center campus is open daily from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., but individual attractions and organizations may keep different hours. The Armory is also open daily from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and has separate holiday exceptions: it closes at 4 p.m. on Christmas Eve and is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day.
There is no single ticket arrangement for all Seattle Center attractions. Each attraction handles its own admission, so check the relevant attraction’s website for ticket options and opening times. The Center’s event calendar lets you browse by date and venue, filter by event type and venue, and see whether an event is free or has an entry charge.
For parking, opening times and other details that can change, check the official site before you go. Seattle Center’s event listings can also help you see what is scheduled during your visit.
Getting to Seattle Center and Parking
Several Metro routes serve Seattle Center: 1, 2, 4, 8, 13, 24, 29, 31 and 33, along with the RapidRide D Line. The RapidRide E Line and routes 5 and 28 serve the Center along Aurora Avenue North.
You can also take the Seattle Center Monorail between Seattle Center and Westlake Center; departures are approximately every 10 minutes. For help choosing a route, see this Seattle public transport guide.
If you’re driving, Seattle Center lists two garages and a surface lot. Check height restrictions before choosing a garage, particularly if your vehicle is tall.
- 5th Avenue N. Garage: 516 Harrison Street. The height limit is 8 feet 6 inches on level P1 via the Harrison Street entrance, and 6 feet 10 inches on the ramp to P2 and lower levels via the Republican Street entrance.
- Mercer Street Garage: 650 3rd Avenue North, with an entrance on 3rd Avenue North between Mercer Street and Roy Street. Its height limit is 7 feet 7 inches.
- Theatre Commons ADA Parking Lot: At 2nd Avenue North and Mercer Street.
Self-service parking rates are $6 for 0–1 hour, $13 for 1:01–2 hours, $15 for 2:01–12 hours and $30 for 12:01–24 hours. Event parking ranges from $20 to $45, and rates can fluctuate with demand. The Theatre Commons ADA Parking Lot rate is $15 for 0–12 hours.

Food, Rest Stops, and Accessibility
The Armory provides a convenient place to pause on the grounds. Its eateries are open daily, though individual operating hours vary. The Center’s public spaces and attractions give you options for structuring a visit around outdoor stops and indoor venues.
Accessible parking is available in all three parking areas, with different stall numbers and vehicle limits. Mercer Garage has 67 accessible stalls on levels B and C, but they are not van-accessible because of the garage’s 7-foot-7-inch height restriction.
The 5th Avenue N. Garage has 24 accessible stalls, including eight van-accessible stalls. The Theatre Commons ADA Parking Lot has six accessible stalls, including three van-accessible stalls, plus an accessible pick-up and drop-off area.
Wheelchairs may be checked out free of charge with identification at Customer Service in the Armory Food & Event Hall. If you need special services or auxiliary aids, contact Seattle Center Customer Service 10 business days in advance at (206) 684-7200.
